A first meeting can be anxiety provoking which is understandable so my aim will be to make it as relaxed as possible. It could be your first time using a talking therapy or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) so part of my role will be to explain CBT if this is required and to discuss the format.
The assessment session is a two-way process. It is about finding out if you think that CBT can help you and for me to answer any questions you may have. It will also be an opportunity for me to find out about you and your current difficulties so I can ascertain if I can provide the right help.
If we begin working together, I offer an initial course of 6 sessions, (usually weekly/fortnightly and sessions last up to 1 hour). The 6th session is a review where we evaluate progress in therapy. This does not necessarily mean we end meetings. If we decide to continue meeting after session 6, we organise another course of therapy sessions and review. Through review we are able to evaluate our progress and this helps us maintain focus for future therapy sessions.
